Making Changes

Continued college education has changed and is now for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is common place to see several different generations represented on campus, everyone wants to continue their education so as to advance their life and build on their career. Jobs today are much different than they were a few generations ago, people change jobs more frequently and side step the exact responsibilities while staying in the same field. Another common thing to see is people using aspects of their major to work in an unrelated field.

It is important to critique all the thoughts you have if you are thinking about making a change and going back to school or changing fields.

A few things to consider if you are going to make a big change in education are…

What else will have to change? You may have to move back in with family to save money on rent. You may have to take fewer classes in a semester to be able to keep working or to keep up with children if you have any.

What do you plan to do when you are finished with your new education goal? You are starting a new career; you will be at the bottom and have to work your way up again. Seniority can affect things like scheduling that have major effect on your personal life.

There is so much to consider when you think about education and where it can take you. It may seem like too big of a sacrifice to make a life shaking change, think about what you will get at the end of your journey and why you want to make the change.
